3.1 How to make a clay pot

To make a clay pot you have to bang the clay on the table lightly and make sure there isn't any holes in the clay for air to go in. If there is air in the clay pit then it will make cracks in the pot after wards when it comes out of the kiln. You have to take a ball of clay and mould it into a round all shape and also make it smooth.

You have to make strips of coil and make sure its not 1 or 2 cm long but it shouldn't be too thick or too thin. You have to smooth it out so air can't enter it.

You can use water to smooth out your coils. Then add those coils onto your base and use water to put it all together. Make sure there are no cracks. Smooth down all the joints with water but not too much or it will become soggy.

Double check your base and your whole pot to make sure there are no cracks. It is important to make sure it has no cracks in it. Make sure the base is strong enough to hold your pot up.

While your clay pit is drying make clays for extra bits you want to add on your pot. You could smooth you clay pot out. Do not use too much water for your handles or they will become very soggy. Stick the coils onto the sides of your pot as handles.

Before your pot goes inside the kiln make sure you leave it out in the air for a few days.
