3.1.1 Go Back in time

3.1.1 Go back in time!
Student Book
pp 78–81

On page 81 of the Student Book you will find some information about the Industrial Revolution – a time that saw big changes in the way products were made and how people lived.
Today you are going to consider what the processes of producing artefacts may have been like before machines were invented. Your teacher will give you an everyday household object. Look at it carefully and answer the questions below.
What materials do you think this object is made from?
Wood, Metal.
Do you think this object was created by hand or by a machine?
I think that this object could have been created by hand, but it also could have been created by a machine because the way it is put together looks like it.
Now imagine you are designing an object to do the same job that this item does (e.g. scissors = to cut paper) but without machinery to help you make it.
What materials would you make your object out of?
Metal, Screws, Had Plastic
Would it look different from the object you have in front of you?
The Handle Part would be different
Would it operate differently?
No
How would you make this object without using machines?
by calving the handal, then getting scrap metal to put it together
